Pat Carver created The Hospice Volunteer Training Series between 2004 and 2006, making it available to Hospices in 2007.  Since then she has updated the content as needed and created new courses.  She established her first on-line video portal in 2010 and her e-learning portal in 2014.  This was well before Covid when remote learning became the norm!  But, Pat felt that busy adults would be more likely to volunteer if they could conveniently manage the hospice training requirements.  New volunteers appreciated the flexible training.  Volunteer Coordinators appreciated the consistency and flexibility that self-study provided.

Fall scene

We listen. Over the years we have added content as requested by our clients.

When Covid struck, we added content related to Covid safety.  Several years ago a surveyor was looking for content related to the Ombudsman program.  That subject had never been on our radar before, but we added it to our Training Series.

Our new volunteer orientation – The Hospice Volunteer Training Series is comprehensive.  Students are able to go through the program at home, complete the quizzes and download certificates of completion.  When the Coordinator meets with new volunteers, they are able to focus on fleshing out the materials in experiential ways, building strong relationships with the new volunteers.
