Pat Carver created The Hospice Volunteer Training Series between 2004 and 2006, making it available to Hospices in 2007. Since then she has updated the content as needed and created new courses. She established her first on-line video portal in 2010 and her e-learning portal in 2014. This was well before Covid when remote learning became the norm! But, Pat felt that busy adults would be more likely to volunteer if they could conveniently manage the hospice training requirements. New volunteers appreciated the flexible training. Volunteer Coordinators appreciated the consistency and flexibility that self-study provided.
If your instructions are to register with an organizational access code consisting of letters and numbers, you will be using the E-Learning Portal. The code connects your account with your hospice and tells the system which courses are to be made available to you. You will set up a unique user name, establish a password and enter the code. You will also answer 2 security questions. Your home page will open. Click Featured Courses to view your assignment. If your assignment includes multiple numbered segments, please begin with Part 1. (If Part 1 fails to launch, your hospice is out of credits. Let them know. In the meantime, you can continue on with other segments if you’d like. But, you’ll need to go back and complete Part 1 before you can launch the final segment which generates your final certificate.
To access the Video Portal, you will be provided with a 5 letter KEY. Registration is simple. Enter your email address and the 5 letter KEY. A contents page will open. Click the Welcome segment to begin viewing. Watch additional segments in any order. Your hospice may provide you with a blue student Workbook, which includes bullet points and pull out competencies. Or, they may provide you with a hard copy set of the quizzes and short answer reflection questions.
If you are having trouble with either portal, please let us know. A few things to check..... are you at the correct portal for your assignment? Is your device running a current operating system? Has your browser been updated? If you have another browser - try it. Reboot your computer. Try a different device - smart phone, tablet or computer.
